Makars' Court to St Giles' Cathedral: Edinburgh Storytelling Walk
Including everything in our ‘Makars’ Court to Greyfriars Bobby’ tour, this walk continues from Greyfriars and brings you back towards the Royal Mile via the George IV Bridge, with more stories that bring Edinburgh to life.
As we (sometimes including one of our Golden Retriever tour guides) re-join the Old Town’s historic spine, we’ll meet some of the minds and characters who shaped the city- economists, philosophers, and larger‑than‑life locals whose ideas (and scandals) still echo through Edinburgh’s streets. Along the way, we’ll point out the details most people walk straight past and share the kind of history that feels less like a lecture and more like stepping into the story.
We finish at St Giles’ Cathedral, one of the Royal Mile’s most iconic landmarks. Here you’ll hear fascinating tales of saints and sinners, power and punishment, and the strange ways reputations are made (and unmade) in Edinburgh. As for who counts as a saint or a sinner - that’s up to you to decide.
If you’re loving the Royal Mile stories and want a wider‑ranging walk, our ‘Makars’ Court to Scott Monument’ tour pushes on beyond St Giles’, digging deeper into Edinburgh’s hidden history as we cross from the Old Town into the New Town.
Please note that our walking tours do not go inside paid attractions (e.g. Writers’ Museum, Edinburgh Castle, St Giles’ Cathedral, or the Scott Monument).
Please check-in a few minutes prior to the start of the tour at the meeting location: Makars' Court, Edinburgh (next to the Writers' Museum).
Good to know:
• Children 5 and under are free with an adult (no need to book).
• Well‑behaved dogs are welcome, as long as they’re comfortable around other dogs, since one of our Golden Retriever tour guides often joins the tour.
